Fathom is an AI meeting partner that turns every conversation into momentum by freeing focus, aligning teams, and surfacing the insights that fuel progression. But despite being the top-rated product in its category and inspiring genuine user “love,” Fathom risked being thrown into a commoditized AI note-taker space. Competitors emphasized feature checklists or enterprise dashboards, leaving little to differentiate one from another.

Fathom needed to stand apart, not just through technology, but through a brand that reflected what users actually felt: trust, relief, and delight.

Breaking expectations

The market is a crowded one with a lot of lookalike brands - AI utilities promising efficiency or enterprise tools bloated with complexity. Fathom’s own brand voice and website leaned heavily on features, underplaying the emotional value users described of clarity, presence, and confidence in their work .

The core challenge was to reposition Fathom beyond the category noise and create a brand that could scale from individuals to teams to executive leaders, while retaining its approachable, human-first ethos, and adding a little spirit to position Fathom as the true market leader. 

Building with every step

We began by listening deeply. In discovery workshops, the Fathom team described an unusual phenomenon for SaaS users, saying they truly loved the product. This insight became our north star for developing a brand that felt more human than others, addressing an emotional need, not just a practical one. 

We defined Fathom as “the power behind your best work,” reframing it from a note-taking tool into an essential meeting partner that relieves cognitive load and transforms conversations into momentum.

Messaging was created that flexed across audiences from individual users to teams to executives, while holding a single, unifying promise. This was supported by crafting Fathom as an inventive, grounded, and resourceful partner through a tone that was precise, calm, and spirited, signaling confidence without intimidation.

We departed from the sterile, utility-driven aesthetics dominating the category to create a visual system with personality - vibrant yet composed, designed to feel like a trusted partner that not only did a great job but looked awesome while doing it. 

Building from a strong baseline, we designed and built a new Webflow website that translated the refreshed positioning and visual identity into a seamless digital journey, emphasizing clarity and storytelling. 

As a test of the brand out in the wild, we extended the identity to Fathom’s Hubspot Inbound conference booth, creating an experience that stood out in a sea of corporate sameness by putting human connection front and center.

The Impact

The refreshed brand has given Fathom a voice and identity that can scale with its ambition - from a beloved free product for individuals to an indispensable platform for teams and organizations.

By leaning into personality and user love, Fathom has broken from the B2B tradition of dry, functional branding. Instead, setting a new standard for how AI-driven productivity tools can connect on a human level.

While competitors race to shout about features, Fathom doubled down on what users actually felt: clarity, presence, and love for the product. With a refreshed brand strategy,  visual identity, digital platform, and beyond, Fathom now stands apart as a category-defining platform. Today, our partnership continues on retainer, building a brand that proves personality has a place in B2B.
